Oral and maxillofacial surgeons, Dr. John Mennitt and Dr. Jane Daly, manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. Drs. Mennitt and Daly practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from cosmetic facial procedures to corrective jaw surgery and wisdom tooth removal. They perform a full range of dental implant procedures including bone grafting to enhance implant sites where bone has deteriorated.
Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth which look, feel and function like natural teeth. The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts, which are inserted into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth. Dental implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing the bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.
Implants are a team effort between an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and a Restorative Dentist. Dr. Mennitt and Dr. Daly perform the actual implant surgery, as well as the initial tooth extractions and bone grafting, if necessary. Your dentist then fits and makes the permanent prosthesis.
Once you learn about dental implants, you finally realize there is a way to improve your life. Whether you have lost one tooth or are missing several teeth, dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind.
Wisdom teeth are the last teeth to erupt within the mouth. When they align properly and gum tissue is healthy, wisdom teeth do not have to be removed. Unfortunately, this does not generally happen. The extraction of wisdom teeth is necessary when they are prevented from properly erupting within the mouth. These poorly positioned impacted wisdom teeth can cause many problems. Removal of the offending impacted tooth or teeth usually resolves these problems. Early removal of wisdom teeth is recommended to avoid such future problems and to decrease the surgical risk involved with the procedure.
Dr. Mennitt and Dr. Daly also perform Tooth Extractions for other impacted teeth, or when teeth need to be removed for a variety of reasons such as in preparation for Orthodontic procedures.
